Cabell Huntington welcomes more than 2,400 babies into the world each year - the second highest number of deliveries in West Virginia. The hospital cares for mothers and babies from 29 counties in the Tri-State area of West Virginia, Kentucky and Ohio.
Long before the baby's due date, classes are offered to mothers and other family members in preparation for their tiny treasure. "Preparation for Childbirth" is a class to help parents prepare for the birth process and the arrival of their child. "Mommy, Daddy, Baby and Me" helps children understand the addition of a new baby to the family. Classes on breastfeeding and infant CPR are also available. To find out more about classes view our Calendar of Events or call (304) 526-BABY.
Maternity Services
CHH's maternity services are a family affair. Mothers can choose to have their babies delivered in a cozy birthing room that features pastel wallpaper and floor tiles, oak furnishings and a bath complete with a shower. When delivery requires special services, our Labor/Delivery/Recovery Unit offers two surgical suites.
The father or a designated support person is welcome during the delivery. During her time at the hospital, the new mother can have the baby with her as much as she wishes. For continuity of care, mother and child are cared for by the same nurse throughout their stay. For mothers in private rooms, a special sleep chair is provided so the father or support person may spend the night. Visits by brothers, sisters or grandparents allow everyone to meet their newest family member. The new parents also are treated to a special "Parents' Celebration Dinner."
If you deliver your child at Cabell Huntington Hospital, you have the option of putting your baby's picture online for relatives and friends all across the world to view. This service is completely optional and complementary and, for your security, last names are not used. Family members from around the world will be able to see your new baby within days of birth!
