Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty (ESG)

A minimally invasive weight-loss option at Cabell Huntington Hospital

For patients who have difficulty losing weight through diet and exercise and don't want to undergo weight-loss surgery, endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty (ESG) offers a minimally invasive alternative to support long-term weight loss.

Performed by Wesam Frandah, MD., ESG is an outpatient procedure performed through the mouth using a flexible tube with a tiny camera and specialized suturing device. The stomach is reshaped from the inside using internal sutures, reducing its size so patients feel full sooner and eat less.

Because there are no external incisions, most patients return home the same day and resume normal activities within a few days.

Benefits of ESG

  • No incisions or visible scars
  • Same-day procedure
  • Faster recovery
  • Clinically proven, long-term weight loss*

*When combined with healthy eating and regular physical activity, patients typically lose about 15 to 20% of their total body weight within one to two years. Weight loss may also improve obesity-related conditions such as high blood pressure, diabetes and other metabolic disorders.
